Home Security for Single People

The single lifestyle has its pros and cons. One of the cons can be your self-defense and protection.

Without a well thought out strategy, it can be challenging for someone who comes into a home alone, and at night, it can be scary. You will need to follow and apply these four factors when making your home and possessions more secure to scare away potential thief who relies on easy access and retreat:
1. Make it as difficult as possible to enter your home or apartment.
2. Make the danger of being detected quite high, like by joining a neighborhood watch program or having a video surveillance camera set up.
3. Make it likely that the burglar will be caught, by installing a home security system, preferably by a reliable monitoring company like ADT.
4. Make the value of the “booty” as low as possible if he does manage to get in, making sure to put anything of great value in a security vault or safe.
A good rule of thumb about protecting your possessions: the larger and more bulky an item, the less likely it is to be stolen. Basically, if it’s too big to move, the burglar will move on. If he has a choice between stealing an antique table or a diamond bracelet, which do you think he will choose?

Give burglars no incentive to enter your home by not having anything of great value lying around and unprotected.
Items that are MOST LIKELY TO BE STOLEN BY BURGLARS:

Jewelry - easily concealed and easily sold for a good price.
Watches, like jewelry, are easy to conceal and wear undetected after stealing.
Art Objects – small objects are easily concealed - a bit harder to sell, but still profitable.
